Digital Security for Bitcoin investorsAs with any transition from paper to digital and beyond, the fast-evolving world of modern finance has been hit with new cybersecurity threats. A Deloitte report found that cyberattacks against banks have increased by 238% in early 2020, and a considerable portion of this is credited to cryptocurrency exchange hacks. For example, 2019 saw a record number of hacks against cryptocurrency exchanges where over half a million user logins were compromised, and almost $300 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen. In a more recent example, UK-based cryptocurrency exchange EXMO, which has a daily trading volume of over $50 million, was digitally robbed of around 5% of the funds’ total assets. This alarming incident served as a stark reminder for the crypto world. Just as hackers target banks and ATMs looking to get quick cash, they are also targeting financial exchanges in ways that are advanced and disruptive ways to takeover cryptocurrency accounts.

To keep up with the industry’s exciting growth while avoiding these growing threats – investors and crypto institutions must understand the risks and implement best practices to secure digital assets through technology and practice.
